Audible is hard to cancel by design — Amazon buries the option and throws retention offers at you. But you keep all purchased audiobooks forever, even after canceling. Here's the fastest path.
Go to Audible account details
Visit audible.com/account/cancel-membership directly. Sign in with your Amazon account if prompted.
Don't try to find this through the Audible app — it's web-only. And Amazon deliberately hides the direct cancel link.
Click "Cancel membership"
On the cancellation page, click "Cancel membership". Audible will immediately offer alternatives.
Decline retention offers
Audible will offer: a cheaper plan, a pause (1-3 months), extra credits, or a discount. Click "Continue cancellation" or "No thanks" to proceed past each offer.
If you just need a break, the Pause option (up to 3 months, no charge) is genuinely useful. You keep your credits and renewal date shifts.
Need the exact words to say if they try to keep you?
Choose a cancellation reason and click the final "Cancel membership" button. Any unused credits will be forfeited. Downloaded audiobooks remain in your library forever.
USE YOUR REMAINING CREDITS FIRST. Pick any audiobook — credits don't carry over after cancellation.
⚠️ Watch out
Unused credits are forfeited upon cancellation. Spend them on any audiobook before canceling.
You keep ALL audiobooks you've purchased or redeemed with credits — forever. They don't disappear.
The cancellation cannot be done through the Audible mobile app — web only.
Amazon will send multiple 'we miss you' emails with comeback offers after canceling.
If you have an annual plan, unused months/credits are not refunded after the 30-day window.
✓ Refund may be possible
Audible offers refunds within 30 days of your most recent charge. After 30 days, refunds are rare. Annual plan members should be especially careful about timing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I keep my audiobooks if I cancel Audible?
Yes. All audiobooks you purchased or redeemed with credits are yours forever. You can listen to them anytime through the Audible app, even without a membership.
What happens to my unused Audible credits?
Unused credits are permanently lost when you cancel. Always redeem all credits for audiobooks before canceling — pick anything, even something you might listen to later.
Can I get a refund from Audible?
Within 30 days of renewal, Audible typically offers prorated refunds. After 30 days, refunds are unlikely. Contact customer service for requests.
Can I pause Audible instead of canceling?
Yes. Audible offers a Pause feature for up to 3 months (no charge during pause). You keep your credits and library. Great if you're just catching up on your backlog.
