How to Cancel Slack — Step-by-Step Guide (2026)

Only Workspace Owners or Admins can cancel a Slack paid plan. Canceling downgrades your workspace to the free tier — you keep your messages but lose access to older history beyond 90 days.

Go to Slack Billing settings

Open your Slack workspace in a browser. Click your workspace name → Settings & administration → Workspace settings → Billing.

You must be a Workspace Owner or Admin to access billing settings.

Click "Manage plan" or navigate to subscription

In the Billing page, find your current plan (Pro or Business+) and click "Manage plan" or "Change plan".

Select "Switch to Free" or "Cancel plan"

Choose to downgrade to the Free plan. Slack will show you what you'll lose (message history beyond 90 days, unlimited apps, guest access, etc.).

Export your workspace data first (Settings → Import/Export Data) if you need full message history. The export includes everything.

Confirm the downgrade

Confirm your choice. The paid features remain active until the end of your billing period. After that, your workspace switches to the Free tier.

On the free plan, messages older than 90 days are hidden (not deleted). If you upgrade again later, they reappear.
